Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch is set to release tomorrow December 7, 2018. Unfortunately, some people who have pre-ordered the Steelbook Edition of the game are just being informed as late as yesterday that their orders have been cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances".
The reports came from a number of people who got their pre-orders from DataBlitz. We have reached out to the local retailer in question but we have yet to receive a response. We may have to wait for their official announcement tomorrow given the current time. On the contrary, others who have pre-ordered the same product did not receive any notification regarding the matter at all which may mean that not all pre-orders were affected. Pre-order slots for this version did run out a few days after the campaign started. This ordeal may also mean that walk-in customers might find it difficult to purchase a Steelbook Edition if they have not pre-ordered it.
Here are some SMS screenshots from Pinoy Nintendo members Mark M. and John N. who pre-ordered from the Trinoma and ATC branches respectively:
They were later offered with two options: either a downgrade (from the Steelbook Edition to a standard copy of the game) or a refund.
Game One PH / i.TECH - Philippines on the other hand reassured us that those who pre-ordered the Steelbook Edition from them will receive it tomorrow provided you still have the receipt. Unfortunately, we were unable to contact other local retailers for their statements.
If you are one of the unlucky people who received a similar notification, the best course action is to coordinate with that specific branch as soon as possible.
