Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima will retire at the end of June after his two and a half years in the aforementioned position.
The announcement made by the company also revealed that Shuntaro Furukawa, the current 46-year old Director, Managing Executive Officer, & General Manager of the Corporate Planning Department, the Supervisor of the Corporate Analysis & Administration Division, and in charge of the Global Marketing Department, will assume the title on June 28, 2018. He has also served as an Outside Director for The Pokemon Company among other related positions at Nintendo since 1994.
Nintendo said in a meeting with their shareholders that they wanted to pass the baton to a younger generation especially now that the company hardware sales have stabilized. While Kimishima's term was short compared to his predecessors, the company did experience significant success stories under his tenure following the release of the Nintendo Switch last year and the continued support on the mobile platform.
This might be the start of yet another era for the 128-year old company.
