2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. So what's in store for the 3DS?
To kick-start the celebration, Nintendo announced the "free-to-start" Nintendo 3DS eShop game, Pokemon Picross. Coming out in early December, the game gives the classic puzzle game a fresh coat of Pokemon features. While Pokemon Picross contains the same nonogram puzzle mechanics, the addition of Pokemon adds additional layers of strategy. Solving a puzzle allows you to capture the Pokemon which you can then bring into puzzles to utilize their inherent abilities to help you solve more complicated challenges.
Prepare for nostalgia! And make it double! Or triple for this matter. Pokemon Red Version, Pokemon Blue Version, and Pokemon Yellow Version are headed to the Nintendo 3DS eShop on February 27, 2016 - exactly 20 years after Red and Blue’s original Japanese release in 1996. While the aforementioned games do not support stereoscopic 3D, the original Link Cable feature needed for trades and battles is now replaced with wireless trading.
Finally, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon will release on November 20, 2015. This spin-off will feature all 720 Pokemon released so far.
No main series Pokemon game have been announced yet.
