A new version upgrade for Fire Emblem Heroes came out which requires users to update the app from the Playstore. Since the game isn't officially released in our region, users need to perform a workaround to access the update and its features.
For Android users, you need to use a free VPN service like Tunnelbear VPN for the update. The steps below are also mentioned in the original How to Download Fire Emblem Heroes in the Philippines post:
- Go to your phone's Settings and Select Apps.
- Find and select the Google Play Store app.
- Tap Force stop, confirm, then tap Clear data and finally Clear cache.
- Open the Google Play Store app and enter your login requirements. (See note below)
- Search for Fire Emblem Heroes & select Update.
- After the download, go back to the Tunnelbear app and disable the VPN service.
- Open Fire Emblem Heroes & it will prompt you to update from the game itself.
Version 2.3.0 added the following changes:
New Mode - Rival Domains
This is a new gamemode you can find under the Special Maps tab. This allows you to play on a significantly larger map with 8 units at a time, almost akin to the main games. Your goal is to capture enemy forts while defeating enemy foes within 10 turns. You also need to consider the required score you will need to pass each mission. At least 20 units are needed to form a Brigade before you can enter but you can also borrow the lead units of your friends. Only one unit with Sing or Dance is allowed and duplicate heroes are prohibited. Maps will change every week and will cost no stamina. They reset every Monday at 3PM Philippine time.
New Mode - Blessed Gardens
This is the new mode dedicated to Legendary Heroes and heroes with conferred blessings. Missions are divided into the 5 blessings in the game: Water, Wind, Earth, and Fire. You must have 4 units with the same blessing as the map (eg: Fjorm + 3 units with Water Blessing in the Water Map) but duplicates are not allowed. 4 Water Blessings will be given to you for free, the first time you enter. Completing each map will earn you a different blessing so you can keep the ball rolling this way. One map will be added every Sunday at 3PM Philippine time. Aside from Blessings, you will also earn Orbs, Feathers, and Divine Dews by completing each mission.
New Weapon Refinery Options
New personal uninheritable Weapon skills have been added to a group of existing Heroes, allowing more options in the Weapon Refinery.
- Soren's Wind Brand inflicts Atk-7 on the enemy team with the highest Atk through its next action. Its special refinement gives the Gronnowl effect: boosts Atk/Spd/Def/Res by number of adjacent allies x 2.
- Eirika's new Sieglinde refinement now grants allies Atk+4 (Hone Atk 3) for 1 turn instead of +3 (Hone Atk 2). Its special refinement copies the highest bonus (blue buff) on allies within 2 spaces and converts it as a combat buff (spur or invisible buff) for Eirika.
- Leo's new Brynhildr refinement now reduces damage from foe's first attack by 30%, if it is magic-based. Its special refinement prevents foes from making follow-up attacks if they are using bow, dagger, magic, or staff and Leo's Def is equal to or higher than 1 compared to the foe's.
Squad Assault 8 - Squad Ace H 1 Seal
This is a clone of the Res +1 Seal. But hey, at least you'll also get 2 Orbs!
Other Changes
- When looking at a Hero's detailed profile page when they appear in the Friend List, Arena, etc., you will be able to see the associated player's name.
- Starting with the next Voting Gauntlet, if you lose a battle, you can choose to deploy your Heroes again right away.
- A colorless dragon unit is planned to be added.
- In Settings, Sorting by Level has been added. Depending on how you set your options, the number of merges can be ignored when sorting Heroes by level in the Edit Teams screen.
- iOS devices will no longer automatically go to the lock screen while downloading data.
