A month has passed since the last 3DS firmware update went live and to no surprise, the new update today still aims to stabilize your systems to the fullest.

These updates were specifically designed to patch exploits and add background enhancements which might not be noticeable at first.

While it is optional, 3DS owners with default non-hacked units are still encouraged to update their systems whenever a new version is available. Outdated units won't let you access the eShop. This may indirectly affect some games that need software updates from the eShop itself. Single-player features might be intact but you won't be able to utilize some or most of their online features. Compatibility issues with other users can also hinder local multiplayer and StreetPass features as well.

Version 11.8.0-41U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
How to Perform a System Update

1. Turn on your system and access the System Settings by tapping the wrench icon.


2. Tap "Other Settings."


3. Tap the right arrow three times to reach page 4.


4. Tap "System Update."


5. Tap "OK."


6. Tap "I Accept."


7. Tap "OK" to begin the update.



Notes

  • Your system must be connected online in order to perform these steps.
  • It may take several minutes for the System Update to download. If you feel the update has stopped downloading, you can safely turn off your system and repeat these steps to try again.

Troubleshooting

    The following error message may pop-up while you are downloading the latest system update:

      An error has occurred.
      Unable to update.

      The system will now be restarted.
    The aforementioned error message is normal provided there are no Error Codes presented. Here are some simple steps that you can try. Some of these steps may or may not work for everyone:
  • Try and try until you d̶i̶e̶ succeed.
  • Try updating at a later time.
  • Use Google's DNS Settings in your system's Connection Settings (Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4)
  • Use a different connection (eg: Globe mobile Hotspot).
  • Put your 3DS on Sleep Mode and hope for the best.
  • Pray.
