Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia has already launched in Japan last April 20 and is doing extremely well in terms of sales and reviews. While we are still waiting for its North American (the same region as US, Asian, & MDE) debut on May 19, a surprising update just came out and might become a game changer for most Fire Emblem fans.
In an interview with Japanese magazine Dengeki Nintendo, Fire Emblem series producer Hitoshi Yamagami stated that Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will most likely be the last main series Fire Emblem game on Nintendo 3DS.
He also clarified that while spin-off titles like the New 3DS-exclusive (only compatible with the New 3DS, New 3DS XL, and New 2DS XL) version of Fire Emblem Warriors could still make it over, the next main series title is scheduled to come out for the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
Looking back, the entire Fire Emblem series would have ended in 2012 if Fire Emblem Awakening wasn't able to sell more than 250,000 copies in Japan. The game ended up smashing this goal and becoming the best-selling game of the series in the West. It also earned a spot as one of the most critically acclaimed 3DS games of all time. Fire Emblem Fates with its 3 versions (Birthright, Conquest, Revelation) followed in 2016 and while it did not break Awakening's records, it ended up selling more than 1.6 million copies worldwide as of March 2017.
We also did a budget deconstruction for Fire Emblem Echoes 2 days ago if you're planning to go all out by supporting the game to its fullest.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia for the Nintendo 3DS will launch on May 19, 2017 along with a Limited Edition bundle.
