The 3DS is still alive!
The highlight of tonight's Pokemon Direct is the announcement of Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon for the Nintendo 3DS, the latest installment of the core Pokemon series.
According to Pokemon Director Junichi Masuda, the new games offer an alternate story taking place in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon featuring Pokemon that did not appear in the original versions. Whether these are brand new Alola Forms or brand new Pokemon altogether remain unknown. He also mentioned that they added new features that are designed to enhance user experience and that more information will be revealed in the future.
Aside from new protagonists, the trailer also showcased new cutscenes and a mysterious new form for both Solgaleo and Lunala. These forms bear some resemblance to Necrozma.
Every generation except the 6th one had enhanced versions (eg: Pokemon Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and Black 2/White 2). The last enhanced version we had was Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 for the Nintendo DS which were released way back in 2012. It is also interesting to note that Game Freak went for dual version releases similar to the aforementioned games. Move Tutors usually make their way on the enhanced versions to provide more variety on Pokemon move pools.
Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon will have a simultaneous global release on November 17, 2017.
