The Pokemon Company has released details regarding the 2016 Pokemon Video Game Championship Series season.

Firstly, the 2016 World Championships will take place at San Francisco Marriott Marquis Hotel, San Francisco, California on August 19–21, 2016. The Pokémon World Championships is an invitation-only competition for players who have qualified throughout the 2016 Championship Series season.

Here are some of the basic information that players need to know regarding the 2016 VGC ruleset:
  • All battles will be Double Battles played in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.
  • Time limits for battles will vary by event. At major events, battles will have a 15-minute time limit, 45-second move timer, and a 90-second Team Preview.
  • Pokémon brought in via Poké Transporter will not be permitted (the blue pentagon is required).
  • All discovered Pokémon will be allowed except the following Mythical Pokémon: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, and Hoopa.
  • Teams may have no more than two of the following Pokémon: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde.
  • All items will be allowed except Soul Dew. Each Pokémon must hold a different item.
This is the first time since 2010 that the Pokémon Video Game Championship Series will allow players to use some of the Legendary Pokémon that are normally prohibited from play. Having a Mega Rayquaza or any of the two Primal Legendaries will drastically change the shift of power in a battle, depending on how you play your odds.

While there are no sanctioned Pokemon Video Game Tournaments in the Philippines, our friends at Pilipinas Got Pokemon still continue to strive as a competent and responsible community fit to compete in official tournaments. They have been organizing monthly VGC Tournaments locally to strengthen the foundation of competitive Pokemon battles among our fellow trainers. As such, kindly support them as they scout for the best players to represent our country in the upcoming 2016 Asia Cup Tournament. Please check the following Events for more information: For more information, please check the Pokemon subgroup. You can also visit our friends at the PKMN-ph: Pilipinas Got Pokemon community for the competitive aspect of the game.
