Version 9.6.0-24U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:

Changes to HOME Menu:

    A Home Menu Layout setting has been added to HOME Menu Settings. Users can save and load up to 8 layouts of the HOME Menu with different theme and software icon arrangements.
Changes to Theme Shop:

    Additional categories have been added under “View More” for easier navigation of the Theme Shop.
Improvements to system stability and usability:

    Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS Systems Only:

Changes to HOME Menu Settings

    amiibo Settings has been added to HOME Menu Settings. amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo (This feature will require a peripheral device scheduled to launch in 2015).

How to Perform a System Update

1. Turn on your system and access the System Settings by tapping the wrench icon.


2. Tap "Other Settings."


3. Tap the right arrow three times to reach page 4.


4. Tap "System Update."


5. Tap "OK."


6. Tap "I Accept."


7. Tap "OK" to begin the update.



Notes:

  • Your system must be connected online in order to perform these steps.
  • It may take several minutes for the System Update to download. If you feel the update has stopped downloading, you can safely turn off your system and repeat these steps to try again.

I tried to update my system but I keep receiving an error message. What will I do now?
Answer: Errors can happen while you are updating your system. These are normal during the download phase, not the installation phase. There are several factors that can cause them to materialize. Here are some simple steps that you can try. These may or may nor work for everyone:
