Developer Saber Interactive recently posted an announcement on their Facebook page thanking Nintendo Switch fans for their initial feedback after NBA Playgrounds took off last May 9, 2017. The Switch version launched without any online multiplayer support but an upcoming patch will add online mode along with other features and improvements.

CEO Matthew Karch also revealed that they will be offering a free copy of their new game, Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, for Switch owners who bought or will buy NBA Playgrounds before the patch goes online. He added that the details are currently being sorted out to determine exactly how NBA Playgrounds players will receive their free copy of Shaq Fu when it releases sometime during the 3rd or 4th Quarter this year.

Although the patch's delivery date was not mentioned, he stated that they added friends, online tournaments, reworked shot mechanics, new players, and endless performance and balance changes to the game as a response to various player feedback and reviews.

For reference, NBA Playgrounds is a separate title from NBA 2K18 which will launch sometime in September. The game is currently available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $19.99.

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn started as a crowdfunded project on Indiegogo with a goal of $450,000 in early 2014. It is a remake of the cult classic 2D fighting game Shaq-Fu, which initially released for the Sega Genesis and Super NES in 1994. Several platform changes and updates have happened since then and while the Wii U version was cancelled, the game will now head to the Nintendo Switch among other platforms.
