11/28/15 UPDATE: We've received several reports that Error Code: 003-2101 may have been fixed. The results of the tests we made earlier seems to confirm this. We're still not sure if this fix is permanent nor if it went live to everyone affected with the aforementioned Error Code. Kindly perform a Connection Test without using any custom Proxy Settings and see if it pushes through.
As a recap, Error Code 003-2101 is an issue unique to selected Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) subscribers. All 3DS online features, with the exception of the built-in browser, are unusable. This means that affected individuals are unable to utilize online multiplayer features, download applications and software updates from the Nintendo eShop, nor update their System Firmware.

One possible solution for this problem is to edit your 3DS unit's proxy settings. However, proxy servers tend to be slow and are not 100% guaranteed to work for everyone. Additionally, some proxy values are only optimized for certain features (eg: the proxy value 136.0.16.217:3127 may work for online multiplayer but not for downloading games, demo, or software updates from the Nintendo eShop). A myriad of other Error Codes are also associated to faulty proxy values.

Nintendo already advised us to coordinate with PLDT regarding Error Code 003-2101; however, PLDT has yet to acknowledge this problem. Various attempts to clarify the issue with them after basic troubleshooting is usually thwarted by the inevitable canned response:

In line with this, we decided to start Oplan Sagip PLDT. The project aims to help PLDT by providing as much information as possible regarding the issue at hand. Eliminating Error 003-2101 will surely improve the user experience indefinitely.

I would like to report an issue concerning the following dedicated gaming devices from Nintendo:
  • Nintendo 3DS
  • Nintendo 3DS XL
  • Nintendo 2DS
  • New Nintendo 3DS XL
Attempting to connect online using any of the aforementioned devices will only yield Error Code 003-2101, Error Code 003-2102, or Error Code 003-2103. Because of this, all online features of the 3DS (eg: online multiplayer features, purchasing digital games from the Nintendo eShop, updating the system's firmware online, etc) are unusable with the exception of its built-in browser.

A number of selected PLDT subscribers from our Facebook community have also confirmed this issue. We already contacted Nintendo and here's what they recommended:


"Some customers of PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company) have reported receiving error codes in the 003-2101 - 003-2103 range while attempting to connect their Nintendo 3DS family system online. If you are experiencing this, we ask that you please contact your Internet service provider for additional assistance at this time."

The only workaround for the issue, aside from using a different ISP, is to change Proxy Settings in our handheld devices:
